Task 40 - 2nd PhD Autumn Workshop on Net Zero Energy Buildings

September 24-28, 2012 - Corsica, France

TRANSFER BY BUS FROM AJACCIO: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 (AROUND 7PM) - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 (AROUND 10AM). ACCOMMODATIONS AT THE INSTITUTE OR IN THE VILLAGE (15MIN WALK)

OBJECTIVES:

The purpose of this five-day event is for participants to gain a thorough understanding of NetZero Energy Buildings (NetZEBs). The week will be divided into two main activities. Over the course of the 5 days participants will work in groups comprising architects, engineers and analysts emulating the Integrated Design Process (IDP) that is such an integral part of NetZEB design. The IDP teams will spend their week in competition with each other to design the best NetZEB for their climate. The basis of their work will be the 30 NetZEBs in the database of SubTask C (Advanced Building Design, Technologies and Engineering).  They will identify and then model architectural, energy efficiency and energy generation innovative solutions sets for their buildings.

The days are organized around morning workshops with design studio work and review sessions for the rest of the day. The morning workshops will focus on modeling (daylighting, natural ventilation..) design goal setting, Post-Occupancy Evaluation, and the role of users. The focus of the whole week will be producing proof of performance.

ADDITIONAL MEETING INFORMATION

  • Selection criteria for attendance:  participants are required to submit a CV and a synopsis of their work by August 31 2012 for selection into one of the Integrated Design Process teams.
  • Assistance with networking: the CVs of the successful participants will be bound and distributed to the Summer School participants at the first evening cocktail event.
  • Presentation of thesis: at the first evening cocktail event, each participant will be required to make a 2 minute presentation – with ONE SLIDE summary – of their thesis topic.
  • Pre-summer school preparation: a package of material, including building modeling software will be distributed  prior to the Summer School, and participants will be required to demonstrate they have the software running on their laptops and they have completed the tutorials, on Day 1.
