In recent years, the sale of water heaters has multiplied. The use of hot water was not developed before, but the comfort standards of the middle class have created a demand. All individual water heaters currently sold in Senegal are of foreign origin. The obtained data are from surveys conducted during 2015. To do this we have listed solar water heaters that are used for individual homes, hotels or collective. No official data are available for earlier years concerning the solar collector surface installed in Senegal. Thus through our investigations an estimate of 1611 m2 or 1127.7 kWth was obtained for sensor surfaces installed in Senegal; with the city of Dakar representing 70% of the total installed surface.
The main applications of solar water heaters are: the supply of hot water in individual houses and hotels; hot water is used in bathrooms for heating the water in the shower. In hotels it is also used in the kitchens for the heating of water for washing. In rural areas, the use of solar water heater is nonexistent. Nevertheless urban presence of these systems varies by survey areas (solar water heaters are more present in new districts).
